Right On Arizona!

Arizona has been doing some good work lately. Within the last couple weeks, they have passed a no permit required concealed carry law, and the toughest anti-illegal immigrant legislation to date.

Let’s talk about them separately.

First, Arizona has had unfettered open carry for years. My own opinion is that open carry should be legal in all states, and the best part would be watching the less savory elements shitting themselves knowing that everywhere they went there would be someone packing. Secondly, where citizens are armed, there are no victims. Open carry means if you are stupid enough to do a crime in the open, you deserve what you get. As far as I am concerned, open carry should not only be legal, but it should be mandatory. An armed society is a polite society.

Second, the new immigration law. Here is the description of the law from an article in the Washington Post.

“The legislation, sent to the Republican governor by the GOP-led Legislature, makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It also requires local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants; allows lawsuits against government agencies that hinder enforcement of immigration laws; and makes it illegal to hire illegal immigrants for day labor or knowingly transport them.”

What could be simpler than this? I can’t see where there could be any disagreement with this legislative reinforcement of common sense. First, it IS illegal to be in this country if you haven’t filled out the proper paperwork to be here. Secondly, by requiring the police to question people about their immigration status, it removes a lot of potential for junk lawsuits by bleeding hearts who just can’t stand to see a law being enforced. Third, I love the idea that the State will be able to file lawsuits against “government agencies that hinder enforcement of immigration laws”. This will be a test bed for Arizona’s 10th Amendment rights under the Constitution.

The best part of this, is the way it is pissing off Beloved Leader. I thought he was going to to start smacking his podium in rage that anyone would dare to go against his agenda, and his plans to systematically neuter the power of the states.

Oh yeah, you know there will be a Federal shitstorm over this, there will be lawsuits, chest beating, rending of clothes, gnashing of teeth. There will be demonstrations, and crying and whining about civil rights, and social justice. And you know what? That will be prime territory for enforcement of the new law.

Go Arizona! Make it stick, and don’t cave to the whiny little bitches.

Resolutions

Seeing how today I got the good news that Chris Dodd is retiring, along with Byron Dorgan, your crusty curmudgeon is feeling kind of good about 2010. So I decided to throw a few resolutions together that may make a difference for me, and maybe you and America as well.

So, for 2010 I resolve to:

1. To become more involved in local politics. Here in my neck of the woods, we have a chance to unseat our local state rep. I will be checking in with the local GOP to see if I can be of some help. While I don’t have a lot of faith that we will be replacing Al “The Clown” Franken by recall or Amy “hey, my dad was a crappy writer for the Sickle and Star daily paper” Klobachar for acts of treason against the taxpayers of Minnesota any time soon. I will support any actions that can be taken against them for the breaking of their vows to uphold and protect the Constitution. That’s goes double for Keith “hey someone pay my way to the Haj” Ellison.

2. To keep all my shots inside of the 5 ring. ‘Nuff said.

3. To continue to be a pain in the ass to all the liberals I know, by pointing out where their thinking flies in the face of logic, and to offer them a way out of their self-imposed hell of knee-jerk reaction, if they want it.

4. To be of service to my fellows. I ain’t saying what I do, or who I do it for, but know that if you see a friend, relative or stranger who needs a hand, don’t be afraid to step up.

5. To be grateful that I live in the greatest nation on Earth, and to facilitate those who want to help us return to the values that made us great.

6. To let my girlie know that my life would be surely less without her in it.

7. To keep working on my house, even though I could think of a million things I would rather do.

8. To save some dough, and cut back on being such a new-tech-I-gotta-have-it now guy. Even though I reeeeeealy need that shiny new quad core processor, motherboard, USB 3.0 and 4 more gigs of RAM.

9. To get the Sportster back up and running after the redesign that is percolating in my head right now. And finish the Shovelhead taking up space in my too small garage.

10. And last but certainly not least, to drop some pounds, and I ain’t talking about divesting myself of English currency.
